My phone "love" started back when I recieved my first Nokia phone for my birthday. This phone was the "stuff" and the service provider was Cingular Wireless. Yeah i know they are pretty much gone unless if you wanna consider them the new AT&T. The first phone which i cannot find right now :'( was a good phone i then later upgraded to the Nokia 3200 first phone with an FM reciever built in woot woot! The next phone was the Nokia 2260 which was ok, blue screen yes the good kind lol. My favorite old phone would have been my Nokia 3220, that thing was BA I had moved myself into the cellphone mod process with the theme.nth files. That road was interesting as all the customizations came into play. The best site to date for this is still ZEDGE they where the best and first to my knowledge. All of these were pre-paid provider phones (unlocked *ALWAYS*).
My next major phone purchase was the Motorola RAZR awesome phone, T-mobile was my provider. When I started getting bored I decided to look around for ways to modify it. I found a site that had these programs and instructions to set them up(this site was hacked then shut down). If you had ever owned a Moto RAZR you would know when the phone was flipped out up would display on the outside display **T**Mobile and I had decided "why not be cute about it", make it **T's**Mobile since that's what everyone called me. This was a fairly easy process and still have the program somewhere in my software cds and and maybe even the html file haha(stockpiled software).
My next phone was the Motorola PEBL not too much to say except it was a complete work-horse never letting me down that thing took a beating and kept going. Not much hacking on that one because it just worked... lol Motorola you made a good phone there what happened??? This next one really wasn't my phone but I had purchased for a girlfriend and played with it, was the Samsung T509. didn't care too much for this phone because in my pocket it had dialed 911 4 times. This made for an interesting conversation with the operator and my apologies to the wonderful lady!
My next jump was to the Nokia N95. WOW, this phone did and still does everything better than any phone to date available in my opinion, or maybe that's because some of the current phones available in the USA are a little "stripped" but I have to admit they are getting better. These videos on YouTube 1 2 was shot and edited all on the phone. check that out!! Oh and a side note these videos ran perfect on the phone it was only when I had uploaded them to youtube did the actions/lyrics get offset.
I then had acquired a Nokia 5610 brand new still in box from an ex. I was there when she purchased but liked her current phone so she just gave it to me knowing my love of the cell phone. Not too fond of this design so i played with it for some time unlocked it via T-mobile I love this carrier. I will cover the reasons why I love them in a later post haha so just remind me ;-). I had sold it after a couple months to a friend who seems to love it. Good thing he was a good friend I had a better offer LOL.
Well i know this seems like a lot of phones but really its not which leads me to another phone I had traded a iPod shuffle for the Moto ROKR wasn't my best trade but definitely a fun one still laggy as hell. With almost full itunes support it was a good deal phone + mp3 player = win win lol still may look into modding this thing sooner or later
As we move on the experiences with these phones all helped in my decisions on my later purchases. Honest truth is I cannot always trust my past though. My First HTC phone was the T-mobile G1/Dream. I loved it, it worked and was constantly getting updates which is a huge plus in my mind. Android is the best phone software so far.
The Moto CLIQ was a huge disappointment!! Motorola locked down the phone for modding which was a huge turn off. I was about to sell it when all of the sudden @ThedudesAndroid and a few others from a moto hacking forum figured it out.
I still wasnt amazed with this phone seeing as I was still limited on the different roms available and still are as of this posting date.
When the Nexus one was announced I really sat down and thought, "I just purchased this damn CLIQ and was disappointed, should I buy another new phone and get disappointed?" Well this wasn't a disappointment and love it. The Google Nexus One
can run just about anything you throw at it. I am currently switching between the HTC Desire rom running the SenseUI by MoDaCo and the Cyanogenmod by @cyanogen. I am currently still watching the CLIQ community and waiting for a blur 2.1 update. til then the cliq will probably sit and gather dust.
I also recently acquired a HTC T-Mobile Dash and was looking into hacking it to run winmo 6.5. I currently have a willing purchaser of it at its current state and would probably look into working with him while he does this mod.
